Who We Are

Board Overview

MANAS recruits and interviews potential new Board members on a rolling basis throughout the year. Board candidates are presented to the board and are voted on as new Directors.

The MANAS Board meets monthly. Each member of the Board is expected to serve on at least one committee.

Board terms for Directors are three years.

Board members have the opportunity, if interested, to serve in additional roles such as Treasurer, Secretary, or Co-Chair.

Questions for the board or a board member?

MANAS Committees

The work of MANAS is primarily carried out through 7 committees. We invite you to volunteer on a committee and/or join a committee at any point in the school year. Please note: While each committee is led by board members, you do not have to be a board member to serve on a committee.

Community Engagement

This committee is the link with HSA. The focus is on engaging families, students, staff, and the MANA community at large. In-school events and support for teacher appreciation, student of the month breakfast, fun day, and more are planned and executed by this committee.

The Night Out

MANAS has one large annual fundraising event each year in the early spring called The Night Out. This committee works on event planning, engaging community sponsors, selling event tickets, pulling together donated auction items, and running the event.

Fundraising

The Fundraising committee focuses on ways to continually fundraise throughout the year. We look to tap into community businesses, neighborhood residents who are interested in supporting their local public school and families of MANA.

Marketing & Communication

Social media updates, emails, and general communication about what MANAS does and the need for support is worked on by this committee. We are always looking for people who like to write and have design talent.

Finance

The finance committee manages all finances for MANAS. The committee goes through an annual budget planning process, manages payment requests throughout the year and collaborates with other committees to understand the budgeting needs. This committee also supports grant-making, keeps the organization's books and is the liaison with the tax accountant.

Governance

The governance committee oversees and ensures we operate in accordance with our bylaws and manages the board recruitment process.

Building & Grounds

This committee collaborates with the school on maintaining the playground, assisting with clean-up days, maintaining the gardens, and assisting with small projects within the school.

Joining MANAS

There are multiple ways to support Marian Anderson Neighborhood Academy through MANAS and the HSA. You can join a MANAS committee or become a board member. You can support programming such as outdoor movie night, school spirit days, kindergarten and 8th grade celebrations, teacher appreciation, and other events all led by the HSA. Every volunteer and amount of time given helps to make our school community strong.
